Where Are The Tanks?

I was recalling all of the cries for "Tank Nation" in Leafland last season, when it occurred to me that no teams (save perhaps the Edmonton Oilers) appear to be shutting it down for the final couple weeks of the season.

With the Toronto Maple Leafs making an honest effort to deny The Boston Bruins a top 3 pick, you would think this would be the perfect opportunity for teams like Columbus, Florida, Carolina, Tampa Bay or the New York Islanders to make a play for one of the coveted three players in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft, Taylor Hall, Tyler Seguin and Cam Fowler.

Could it be true, that the teams in the NHL do, in fact, play for pride? Is Leaf Nation the only fanbase that splinters in two and develops "Tank Nation" when the Leafs play themselves out of playoff contention? Of course, that is only if the Leafs have a first round draft card to play.

Are Hall, Seguin and Fowler deemed not as impactful as Leaf fans make them out to be?

I would assume a couple of General Managers have approached their coaches about trying out some AHL prospects for the last few games. Perhaps, play the backup goaltender for a stretch?

I know you can't ask the players to dog a few games, but I'm certain GMs have arranged to have their Coaches supplied with inexperienced skaters before.

Now, I've got to ask, does tanking really exist, anymore?
